From Tradition to Transformation
Nordic Waterproofing is a leading provider of waterproofing products and systems for buildings and infrastructure. Through brands like Mataki and Trebolit, they offer products and services that protect structures throughout their entire lifecycle. With operations across several European countries and roots dating back to 1889, the company brings deep experience—now combined with a clear focus on the future.
To meet growing demands from professional customers and further strengthen its digital presence, Nordic Waterproofing has deepened its collaboration with Litium and its partner 3bits. The goal was to create an e-commerce solution that combines simplicity, accessibility, and in-depth product information—making it easy for customers to work with their products, whether the purchase happens online, in-store, or somewhere in between.
Self-Service for Professionals – Anytime, Anywhere
At Nordic Waterproofing, there is a strong focus on nurturing and developing relationships with existing customers. That’s why it was essential to build an e-commerce solution that’s available 24/7, allowing roofing professionals to easily find the right product data, installation guides, and documentation—whenever it suits them. For many, that means evening hours, after the workday ends, when everything else is closed but the projects keep moving forward.
“Self-service is critical to our business. We need to provide customers with the right information 24/7,” says C-G Hanson, Digital Manager at Nordic Waterproofing. “Our customer journey often happens in two steps—first online research, then an in-store purchase. Or the other way around. That’s why our digital presence needs to be just as strong as our products on the shelf.”
It was therefore crucial to develop an e-commerce platform where all relevant documentation is accessible—both for logged-in and guest users.
Two brands. One efficient way of working.
Under the brands Trebolit and Mataki, Nordic Waterproofing targets both small and large roofing contractors. Both sites are powered by the same Litium solution and built on a shared framework, enabling efficient and coordinated work across brand boundaries. Soon, Mataki’s Norwegian operations will also be integrated into the same platform.
“Managing multiple brands on the same platform saves us a lot of time, while allowing us to tailor content and features to each target audience,” says C-G.
Product data that drives the business
As a manufacturer of its own products, Nordic Waterproofing maintains strong control over both products and information. It is crucial that the data is accurate, up-to-date, and easy to find.
“For us, product data is a business-critical asset. The better we guide the customer, the smoother their daily work becomes,” says C-G.
And it shows in usage: approximately 3,000 documents and instructional videos are downloaded every month.
A simple purchasing experience that delivers results
Today, e-commerce accounts for a significant and growing share of sales. The checkout process has been simplified, logged-in customers have access to the full product range, and guest users can view product information, guides, and documentation. The customer portal also includes project documentation and downloadable materials that are frequently used.
In an industry where a wrong choice can be costly for the customer, it is crucial to provide the right guidance from the start. That’s why system descriptions, accessory recommendations, and environmental documentation are integrated into the solution.
Flexible platform for a small team
The team behind the sites consists of a digital manager, an art director, and a graphic designer. This calls for a platform that is powerful yet easy to work with.
“Litium gives us the flexibility we need to run today’s business and scale up when required. And the collaboration with 3bits works very well—they are quick, responsive, and understand our business,” says C-G.
Next step: data-driven decisions and an even better customer experience
Looking ahead, the focus is on further developing the customer portal, optimizing the management of product data (PIM), and meeting increased demands for transparency—especially concerning environmental performance (DPP). Support for product bundling is also on the agenda to further simplify the purchase experience for the customer.
With Litium as the platform, 3bits as the partner, and the customer at the center, Nordic Waterproofing is building a digital business that is as strong as their waterproofing layers—ready for both rain and sunshine.
